This is actually 3 of John Owen's works on sin, the most famous probably being "On the Mortification of Sin in the Believer." What strikes me about "On Mortification..." is Owen's ability to show us how powerful sin becomes due to idleness on our part. "Be killing sin, or sin will be killing you," is one of many famous lines. Great read. The Kapic/Taylor version makes it actually possible to understand Owen, so buy their version if you're interested.
Suffering and the Sovereingty of God - John Piper, Justin Taylor
Some good essays on suffering and, go figure, the sovereingty of God. There's even a little essay by Steve Saint, the son of Nate Saint who died as a martry in the Ecuadorian jungles with Jim Elliot (aka. Elizabeth Elliot's husband). Pretty good read so far.
Seeing God - Gerald McDermott
Nice little book that basically repackages Jonathan Edwards' classic "Religious Affections" which still stands to this day as probably the greatest theological book ever written by an American. If you've ever tried to read Edwards and found him a little archaic, give this book a try. I've really enjoyed it so far.
The Trinity and the Kingdom - Jurgen Moltmann
I'm really never crazy about how Moltmann's been used to defend process and/or open theology. This book is about the social model of the Trinity which seems to be en vogue lately since the Trinity seen socially is the foundation for community in the Church. Tough, valuable read.
